I just got a bigger bed so I could move away from them a bit and still sleep. At one point we had two queens side by side filling a whole room, we just crawled into bed from the end of the bed. Later it was a king sized futon on the floor plus extra mattresses when needed for the older ones. The older ones did have their own beds (from age 3ish).. and eventually they stayed there on their own. But the more we pushed the more they pushed back so we just didn't push. They are 19, 16, 14 and 11 now. Its all a distant memory. They all sleep well on their own, have for many years now. I'm glad I didn't waste those years pushing them away when they wanted to be close.
Good luck figuring out what works best for all of you.melissahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13862729850544569809noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4238854188410095322.post-59398353963943079162013-03-15T21:42:51.953-07:002013-03-15T21:42:51.953-07:00I just love this comment, so, so much. Not because I saw something I didn't like, but because I couldn't remember what I was looking for that is bad. Besides my cart was already full of wine, and snacks (MOSTLY ORGANIC) and jesus christ if I'm eating a cracker, I'm going big. Cheez-its. Have you done the thing where you buy organic for the kids, and crap for yourself? I mean, we were born in the 70's. I figure I'm 12% DDT. I am rubbing the head of my husband who lays here reading The New Yorker. My daughter is at the home of a friend whose mom feels the need to text me a pre-emptive apology for the "lame" dinner she has planned (pizza-organic of course). Sounds like bad parenting, perhaps, yet each one of us is very, very happy. Mrs. Cleaver would have done the same damn thing if she'd had the chance. Since she had fuck all else to do she made dinner a bfd. I get it, but I ain't gonna do it. We can bond as a family without the histrionics that inevitably accompany any attempt to introduce the youngest member of our family to food that was not previously frozen or pre-wrapped. My hillbilly ancestors would have thought all if this was a riot. I vacillate between making separate meals for the kids, declaring "I will no longer make separate meals for the kids," and something in between. Also, our preschool provides a healthy, full of variety hot lunch for a reasonable fee, and I often order the lunch for my 4 year old, but also send along a pb&j sandwich because he hardly EVER tries anything new. He usually gets mad at me when I order the hot lunch. But I keep doing it and hope that he tries one (JUST ONE, PLEASE!?!) bite. I read that book Bringing Up Bebe and it made it seem so simple, but so impossible. I feel this ...I love this post so so much, Marija! I feel this way ALL THE TIME. I am so tired of being admonished by other moms and family members that I am too accommodating by making the kids their own food. But I care more about the fact that they WILL actually eat than what they eat. I don't think it will last forever, but I do think it's what's gotta happen right now. I always put "be a better cook" on my list of new year's resolutions. And then I go right on buying pre-made TJs entrees and hope upon hope that my kids won't deem me a "terrible cook" to their future wives. I guess we have to focus on what we do bring to the table, right? We love them enough to keep dinner from becoming a battlefield. xoxo.Jesshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00606656604179078942noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4238854188410095322.post-43372864889537599512013-03-11T07:56:07.316-07:002013-03-11T07:56:07.316-07:00Oh my! So far this is the only post I've read but I couldn't help but see how much your son and mine have in common. He suffers from anxiety over totally irrational fears as well and has since he was a baby (he's 6 1/2 now).

He was diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder as a baby and after researching it I found that I have the same thing as well. I am like you and suffer from those anxieties and some days are hard just to get through. If you've never looked into it I think you might give it a look. No one wants to find out their child has an issue, but just being able to give it a name and to know why you, and your son, act the way you do it is almost a help in itself.

This isn't one of those things that you throw medications at but it's about learning to cope with those things in life that are usually no big deal but are huge issues for a child/adult with SPD. Letting my son work through things at his own pace and never forcing things was a huge key to succeeding in getting rid of irrational fears (Taekwondo, school, playground equipment, water). Now he's 6 and in first grade and you'd never know he has issues. He's learned to deal with them and when new things come up we have strategies for getting him past it.

Sorry to be so long, just thought I'd share. Your children are adorable by the way!!Samantha Torreshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00932178637480852592noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4238854188410095322.post-45231581064497648462012-11-02T22:36:40.666-07:002012-11-02T22:36:40.666-07:00Great entry.Great entry.Steelmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14364240335674620064noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4238854188410095322.post-88606077278993417632012-10-04T09:01:34.594-07:002012-10-04T09:01:34.594-07:00Amen. Once you see it on the brick-you will know what you like. It's a heck of a big wall and is an important part of the property. I like willow-but it may be more gray than you want.
